LINTHICUM – After beaming that his Baltimore football team remains undefeated so far in the ’09 season, President Dick Cass described differences between running a team and other businesses (e.g. winning games instead of maximizing profits) and similarities (e.g. infrastructure maintenance). Notable numbers:
- team revenue: $240 million
- stadium maintenance: up to $6 million a year
- salaries: $145 million, which is expected to change soon because ’09 is when the salary cap expires as part of the 1992 collective bargaining negotiation
- Baltimore media market: ranked about 26th with no secondary market (DC is too close, bigger)
- 13 of 15 of the highest-rated shows last year were NFL games.
Not entirely a show stealer, Cass was preceded during the Partnership annual meeting by Lou Zagarino of Whitehall Management Group, Ltd., the outgoing volunteer chairman who introduced his replacement Richard Morgan of CommerceFirst Bank. The evening also included an award to the Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corp. as the Employer of the Year for its multiple career centers and programs around the county.
