FORT MEADE – In his address to the BWI Business Partnership last week, Col. Daniel Thomas said he is focused on ensuring adequate transportation facilities as well as privatizing and modernizing utilities at the base. Under construction at Ft. Meade is a new golf course, as well as several buildings designated for the Defense Information Systems Agency, Defense Media Activity, and the co-location of Defense/Military Adjudication Activities. While the population at Ft. Meade will have grown by 12 percent when the Base Re-alignment & Closure plan is finished, the main challenge is “managing the growth’s impact to the environment and broader community.”
