LINTHICUM – Christian Johansson, Maryland’s recently confirmed secretary of the Department of Business and Economic Development, sees his job as focusing on 1) promoting business confidence with a concentration in “feds, meds, eds and beds,” aka government contracting, health care, education and tourism; 2) advocacy of business needs to the legislature and re-establishing an economic development commission; 3) identifying the best opportunities to create the most jobs and support them, such as a federal facility summit to assist with BRAC efforts; and 4) link the state to opportunities for federal stimulus funds. He made the comments at last week’s meeting of the BWI Business Partnership, one of more than 100 business groups he has addressed in his first 100 days in office.
