Today we digress to the national scene and last night’s state of the union speech.  Did the President deliver and set us on course?  Or did he come up short?  Have a look at the commentary of Chris McGoff, a consultant to government agencies and expert in organizational transformation (and yes, a Chris O. Mr. President, in the spirit of John Kennedy and Babe Ruth and Martin Luther King, declare specific, date-certain outcomes and declare that these outcomes shall be achieved within the next two years. Sir, to see progress achieved on your watch, you must declare the specifics on your watch.

EDGEWATER – The Brick Companies has taken over Lakefront at Washingtonian, an office building at the Washingtonian Center and The RIO, a mixed-use retail and entertainment development in Gaithersburg. The 2006 vintage, 103,360 square foot building was bought from The Lionstone Group for $32 million.

ELLICOTT CITY – Howard Bancorp/Howard Bank reported year-end net income of $933,000 as compared to a loss of $2.2 million a year ago.  The Q4 numbers showed net income of $272,000.

ANNAPOLIS – CommerceFirst Bancorp/CommerceFirst Bank earned a consolidated net profit of $1.4 million for the year ended December 31, 2010 compared to a net profit of $678,000 a year ago.

ANNAPOLIS – Severn Bancorp/Severn Savings Bank announced net income of $607,000 for Q4, an increase of $3.3 million compared to a net loss of  $2.7 million a year ago.

LAUREL – Engineering consulting firm Greenhorne & O’Mara has joined the energy industry’s Marcellus Shale Coalition, a group of companies that operate by guiding principles of safety, continuous improvement and good corporate citizenship.  The Marcellus Shale is one of numerous oil- and gas-bearing shales that will contribute to energy independence for the U.S., and it is near east coast cities with high natural gas demand.

ELLICOTT CITY – Clinical researcher RxTrials has earned status as a Women Business Enterprise (WBE) from the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council.  RxTrials is a network of investigative sites that conduct Phase II through Phase IV and vaccine clinical research studies.
