Or Facebook 1.0?  The computing world (i.e. everything) is getting set to become even more complicated.  The Internet as we know it is expected to run out of Internet addresses around this time next year.  The culprits?  Increases in mobile devices and user-generated content. 

There are potentially devastating consequences for economies, but greater minds are figuring out a three-propeller-hat solution.  Hint: we won’t have to learn a shadow alphabet and add letters to domains. 

Whatever you do, DON’T click on the report by ReadWriteWeb (hey, reverse psychology always works on the kids).

SEVERNA PARK – OK, it’s my turn.  Recent client wins at Chris O. Communications are: American Systems, the Dept. of Defense contractor in need of a technical white paper; High Performance Technologies, Inc., a government contractor for which the company is drafting a messaging platform and market positioning to assist with business development efforts; and Tower Federal Credit Union, which requires public relations assistance for its expansion into Anne Arundel.

LAUREL – Construction is underway at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory for a new spacecraft assembly and testing facility.  The $30-million facility will include optics laboratories, mechanical assembly areas and a high-bay clean room area capable of supporting classified or unclassified integration, and test operations.  To open in Fall 2012, the building will support APL’s mission to in turn support NASA and DoD.

EASTON – Shore Bancshares reported net income of $445,000 for Q2, an improvement over the Q1 net loss of $1.6 million.  The recent numbers included a $4.9 million provision for credit losses.

BOWIE – WSB Holdings/Washington Savings Bank, F.S.B. released figures showing a net loss of $2.4 million for Q2, a sharp decline compared to year-ago numbers.  The company allocated an additional $2.4 million for loan losses and an increase in non-interest expense.

ELLICOTT CITY – Howard Bancorp/Howard Bank year-to-date net income of $530,000, a 400% increase over the year-ago figure.  Much of the increase was attributable to balance sheet growth, and increases in total assets by 20%, deposits by 24%, and in total loans by 12%.

NATIONAL HARBOR – Safe Banking Systems and Centrifuge Systems have joined forces to provide banks, financial services firms, government agencies and other organizations with the ability to combat financial crime.   Centrifuge’s link analysis software and SBS’s anti money laundering solutions will detect entities in corporate databases that pose risk.

ANNAPOLIS – eTelemetry has launched version 5.0 of Locate that features a Collaborative Device Registration System and device-discovery capability. This centralizes and automates network and asset management processes for IT managers for the purpose of better security and compliance.

OWINGS MILLS – Greenberg Gibbons sent word that Philly Flash restaurant will open next month at Annapolis Towne Centre. The 1,728 square-foot location will offer cheese steaks, subs, pizza and wings.  The chain’s other site is at 1901 West Street.

COLUMBIA – Eurotech has won several contracts to deliver the Catalyst LP and Catalyst Module embedded computers for DynaVox’s alternative augmentative communication devices that assist individuals with speech challenges.   The combined value is nearly $4.2 million with deliveries to be made this year and next.
