ANNAPOLIS – In its 8th of a series of integrated seasonal promotions to stimulate the local economy, the Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitors Bureau has tallied the votes and prepared the list of winners of the Top 10 Passionate Culinary Personalities.  More than 4,500 votes were cast for 15 finalists; the 10 winners will be recognized during an awards ceremony at Galway Bay restaurant Feb. 1 at 3 pm.  See the link for the winners.

STEVENSVILLE – ZGI, Inc. has received funding from the Maryland Technology Development Corp. to continue its work with NASA and the USDA.  These projects include the on-orbit, high-volume manufacture of undifferentiated cells of plants and animals, the space-based production of embryonic stem cells, the on-orbit protocols, processes and procedures for adapting plants and animals to hostile environments, and the production of new varieties and species of plants and animals for extreme environments.

COLUMBIA – W. R. Grace & Co. has completed the sale of a 5% interest in Advanced Refining Technologies LLC (ART), a joint venture with Chevron Products Company (Chevron). Grace has reduced its 55% interest to 50% to achieve a balanced ownership structure.  ART is a supplier of hydroprocessing catalysts that remove sulfur and other contaminants from petroleum.

Platinum Equity announced today it has acquired OAO Technology Solutions from an affiliate of J.F. Lehman & Company and the other stockholders of OAO. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.  OAO provides managed IT services and solutions for Fortune 500 corporations, global outsourcers and government agencies.

ANNAPOLIS – Wireless provider TeleCommunication Systems has won the 2009 Satellite Product of the Year Award from TMCnet.com for two of its SwiftLink products, 1) the flyaway Satellite Access Baseband Remote (SABR) 2.4M Quad-Band VSAT Terminal and 2) the man-packable Stingray 45-X Ultra Small Aperture Terminal (USAT).  The company’s LivewirE911 product received TMCnet’s 2009 Cable Product of the Year Award.  Separately, TCS announced that it received $75 million in growth financing from Silicon Valley Bank and M&T.

BUFFALO, NY – M&T Bank with its multiple branches in the region saw Q4 net income rise 34% to $136,818, and its net interest margin widened 10 basis points to 3.71%.  The bank held total assets of $68.9 billion as of the end of last month.

HANOVER – Pennysaver, Inc., purchased substantially all of the assets of Pennysaver Group Inc., in a UCC Article IX asset sale.  Pennysaver Group Inc. is the direct mail shopper distributed through the mail on a weekly basis to approximately 1.0 million homes in 65 individual editions covering 165 zip codes in Maryland.
