BWI AIRPORT – Beginning May 23, Southwest says BWI will be a direct destination for the new Panama City (FL) Beach service with two daily nonstops.  The carrier also noted that beginning May 9, it will increase its daily non-stop flights at BWI to a record 181.   Southwest is the largest airline at BWI with 53 percent of the passenger market share.

ANNAPOLIS – Severn Bancorp/Severn Savings Bank, FSB has suspended the common stock dividend for the fourth quarter of 2009.  This represents a reduction of $.03 per share from the common stock dividend declared for the third quarter of 2009.

COLUMBIA – Fortress International Group has entered into a definitive agreement with Rubicon Acquisition Company, LLC for the sale of Fortress’ Rubicon Professional Services division.  The sale for roughly $1.875 million will strengthen the firm’s balance sheet and focus it on its core competency of maintaining data and mission-critical facilities so that revenue is not affected as much by capital spending.

ARLINGTON, Va. – Interstate Hotels & Resorts, the nation’s largest independent hotel management company, now falls under the management of Hotel Acquisition Company, LLC.  Hotel Acquisition Company is a 50/50 joint venture between subsidiaries of Thayer Hotel Investors V-A LP, a private equity fund sponsored by Annapolis-based Thayer Lodging Group, and Shanghai Jin Jiang International Hotels Company Limited.  The transaction was valued at approximately $307 million.

COLUMBIA – Symantec Corp. and Message Systems announced today a joint initiative to combine forces and develop next-generation message security, management and other business solutions.  Called Service Provider Next Gen, the effort will target telcos, ISPs, hosting companies and other service providers.

ANNAPOLIS – Network management firm Netcordia has been awarded a patent for its techniques of finding and diagnosing performance problems in voice-over-IP (VoIP) networks.

JESSUP – Vorbeck Materials has gotten an okay from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to manufacture graphene as a conductive additive for inks.  With this go-ahead the company can offer its Vor-ink, a conductive, versatile, and low-cost ink for commercial sale to the printed electronics industry.

ANNAPOLIS – Timberlake Building & Renovations has received two awards from the Home Builders Association of Maryland at the recent 19th Annual Remodeling Award of Excellence banquet.  The sister company of Timberlake Homes won an Award of Excellence in the Kitchen Remodeling category and a Silver Merit Award in the Whole House category.
