ANNAPOLIS – For the second consecutive year Anne Arundel County has the highest statewide total of defense procurement contracts, according to Anne Arundel Economic Development Corp.  The $2.7 billion for FY08 is 35 percent higher than the previous year.

GLEN BURNIE – Vision Technologies has won a contract to provide the U.S. Dept. of Energy’s Western Area Power Administration with IT support.  At sites in Colorado and Arizona, Vision Technologies will deliver software application support and development, database administration, help desk support, computer center operations, desktop/laptop support, configuration management, systems administration, email and Internet support, cyber security and asset management. Vision Technologies secured the award through the GSA VETS GWAC contract.

COLUMBIA – Osiris Therapeutics has created a Biosurgery Division focused on developing and marketing biological products for use in surgical procedures.  A main focus will be advancing bone repair based on advanced manufacturing techniques that can produce purified, culture-expanded stem cells.  This would build on the success of its first generation implantable product, Osteocel, which it launched in July of 2005 and generated more than $40 million in three years.

ANNAPOLIS – Computer-based certification exams of BOMI International will be administered under an exclusive agreement with Minnesota-based Pearson VUE.  The testing for BOMI certification for commercial property management will be available in January through the network of Pearson Professional Centers and Pearson VUE Authorized Test Centers.

ANNAPOLIS – Wireless technology provider TeleCommunication Systems has handled more text messages in the first half of this year than it did in all of 2008. The company has processed 292 billion so far in 2009, which contributed to Frost & Sullivan citing TCS as the world’s third largest Short Message Service Center. The analyst firm’s report forecasts that text messaging in the United States will grow six-fold from one trillion messages in 2008 to more than six trillion in 2014.

COLUMBIA – Database marketer Merkle has appointed Angie Moore as senior vice president and general manager of its fundraising services group. Moore’s background includes more than 20 years of marketing and fundraising experience with private companies and national health charities the American Cancer Society and the Arthritis Foundation.

ODENTON – President & CEO Claire Louder, MPP, IOM of the West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce, has graduated from Institute for Organization Management leadership training course.  The four-year professional development program, produced by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, focuses on non-profit organizations and is taught at Villanova University in Pennsylvania.

ANNAPOLIS – IT services firm Mavenspire has relocated to 53 Old Solomons Island Road in Annapolis. The company’s new office has the testing center, training area and video conferencing capability that it says it needs for customers and partners.
