The Chesapeake Innovation Center is inviting companies to present their product and solutions to government agencies and prime contractors at the CIC TechBridge Showcase. The business accelerator for homeland and national security, CIC is reviewing companies for presentations set for Sept, Nov. 18 and Jan. 20. Deadline for submission is Sept. 1.
BWI AIRPORT – Southwest Airlines has begun a daily non-stop service from Boston Logan airport to BWI five times a day. Southwest is the nation’s busiest airline based on domestic departures with 3,200 flights a day to 67 cities.
CROFTON – Cell-Tek Geosynthetics has brought to market what it calls a geo-cellular confinement system that bonds together aggregates to create a permeable, decorative pavement system. Gravel-Lok has the same strength as traditional hard-scaping and creates a flat pavement that is wheelchair and stroller friendly, i.e. ADA compliant, for patios, walkways, driveways, streetscapes, nature trails, parking lots and other applications.
LINTHICUM – A Northrop Grumman-led team has demonstrated the integration of the AN/SPQ-9B radar and Naval Expeditionary Overwatch system sensor data into the Integrated Combat Management System (ICMS). The demonstration illustrated the open architecture capabilities of ICMS to integrate both shipboard and off-board sensor data into a combat system network that supports fleet combat operations. Real-time air and surface operations were used to demonstrate ICMS integration and control, and the value of the ICMS open architecture design to the Navy.
ANNAPOLIS – The Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitors Bureau has started a Volunteer Ambassadors program to direct visitors to city attractions. The initiative kicked off to support downtown businesses for two specific events: the Downtown Annapolis Partnership’s Sundays at City Dock, which features performances from 11 – 4 pm through Sept. 27, and the Annapolis Business Association’s Market House Festivals that are slated to take place from 11 – 6 pm the third Sunday of each month through Oct. 18. The volunteer information specialists are stationed outside Market House in royal blue aprons.
COLUMBIA – Data center provider Fortress International Group said it its second quarter numbers were $14.9 million, a decline from the $20.1 million a year ago The decrease was primarily attributed to $2.2 million in lower revenue from construction management and $2.0 million from the facilities management. Gross profit was $1.8 million, or 12.0%, compared to gross profit of $2.1 million, or 10.4%, for the second quarter of 2008.
ANNAPOLIS – Biodefense company PharmAthene, Inc. has added Charles Reinhart III as senior vice president and chief financial officer, with responsibility for accounting and finance, human resources and information technology. He previously held executive positions with Millennium Pharmaceuticals and Cephalon. PharmAthene also announced that previous CFO Christopher Camut has taken a new role as vice president of government contracting and special projects.
COLUMBIA – Integral Systems has brought on board Major General (Ret.) H. Marshal Ward, USAF as Chief Operating Officer. Ward has more than 40 years of experience in government, aerospace and operations in the defense and intelligence communities, including a position with BAE Systems.
ANNAPOLIS – Nancy Pettit is the new vice president of digital solutions at Whitmore Group, the provider of print and graphic arts solutions. She is responsible for delivering the company’s enterprise solutions, Web-based workflows and streamlined Web-to-print solutions to specialized markets.
For Chuck Taylor of PROTEUS Technologies, the technologies in greatest demand are multi-lingual computing, cloud computing, virtualization and database systems. He was part of a Chesapeake Regional Technology Council panel that outlined what government agencies and contractors seek to implement the Dept. of Defense’s Base Realignment and Closure program. Contributor Perri Nejib of Lockheed Martin added that cyber warfare means the battlefield is everywhere, which includes social networks that are new to the government. Panelist Dick Bowers of Northrop Grumman encouraged attendees to research the customer, its mission, specific procurement processes and who controls the contracting vehicles before pitching products or services as a partner. Jim Sprungle of TeleCommunication Systems made mention of his firm’s interest in partners that know the TCS product suite and what the company is doing on satellite projects for the government.
The event was sponsored by the Fort Meade Alliance whose chair Rosemary Budd of Booz Allen Hamilton served as moderator and noted that Fort Meade will grow to have about 90 tenant organizations by the Sept. 15, 2011 implementation deadline.
