HOLLYWOOD – Southern Maryland’s Smartronix has won an initial $9.5 million task order to redesign the federal government’s www.recovery.gov site.  The award includes procurement, installation, configuration, security, and 24×7 operation and maintenance of the Web infrastructure that supports millions of users.  The award could be valued at $18 million over five years if all options are exercised.

CROWNSVILLE – Redevelopment of 150 family units at Annapolis Gardens and Bowman Court is one local project resulting from a $44 million allocation from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  Disbursed through the state’s Department of Housing and Community Development, the grants are supposed to kick start construction of affordable rental projects.  The other local beneficiary of the money is Calvert Heights in Chestertown; officials are still looking for projects to place the final $6 million of the funds.

LINTHICUM – Northrop Grumman Corporation has been awarded the first phase of a $30 million firm-fixed price U.S. Air Force contract to develop a global space surveillance ground radar system.  The new S-Band Space Fence is part of the U.S. Department of Defense’s effort to track and detect what is commonly referred to as resident space objects (RSO), consisting of thousands of pieces of “space debris” as well as commercial and military satellites.  Space Fence will replace the current VHF Air Force Space Surveillance System built in 1961.

LA PLATA – Shell-branded gasoline stations throughout Maryland will receive equipment upgrades from a $3 million fund established by Potomac Energy Holdings, LLC, a new entity created by Shell marketer Motiva Enterprises LLC, and SMO, Inc., an affiliate of gas wholesaler The Wills Group, Inc.  The new venture has acquired 73 existing Shell retail locations that will be managed by SMO under the agreement.

ANNAPOLIS – Outreach Process Partners’ President Janice Roper-Graham has achieved the Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) designation from the Association of State Floodplain Managers.  Prior to passing the CFM exam she spent much of her time developing communications materials for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

ROCKVILLE – Kevin McCormick, P.E. is the new director of operations in Anne Arundel county for the engineering firm Loiederman Soltesz Associates, Inc., a provider of civil engineering, surveying, environmental services and land planning.  McCormick is a former president of John E. Harms, Jr. & Associates, the 55 year-old engineering firm that recently closed and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
