CROFTON – Expanded polystyrene (EPS) provides a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions when used to insulate homes in North America, according to the EPS Molders Association. Often formed into flat panels or “packing peanuts,” EPS will reduce the operational impact of the building to an extent that far outweighs the environmental impact caused by its manufacture.
LINTHICUM – Network specialist Ciena Corporation has formed an eight-member Partner Advisory Council in support of its global BizConnect Partner Program. The council will offer direction on the strategic alignment of BizConnect with the needs of partner and end-user communities.
ANNAPOLIS – Enterprise data security provider Becrypt has commissioned the white paper The Legal Risks of Data Loss in the United States. It explores the risks associated with losing data and other valuable and confidential information, presents an overview of relevant U.S. state and federal legislation and offers best practices and guidance for companies to protect against data theft and loss.
ANNAPOLIS – Netcordia has introduced an ROI calculator for customers to identify areas for cost savings and efficiency in their IT networks. The initiative is based on findings from analyst firm IDC that showed average operational savings of $203,000 per year for companies using Netcordia’s NetMRI 3.0 change management software.
ODENTON – With more than a half dozen manufacturers producing eReaders, accessorizing them has become a strong business, too. For the Sony Readers PRS-505 and PRS-700, M-Edge Accessories has launched a line of protective jackets that open like a book and offer device protection in a plush padded case. In the roughly two years after Sony’s October 2006 introduction of its eReader, it sold 300,000 units.
BUFFALO – M&T Bank Corporation announced today that it completed its acquisition of Provident Bankshares Corporation and the merger of Provident’s banking subsidiary, Provident Bank, into M&T Bank. M&T’s 30 branches in Anne Arundel are joined by 135 former Provident branches and 190 ATMs conversions. M&T’s totals are 300 branches and 740 ATMs in the Baltimore-Washington corridor.
ANNAPOLIS – Dave Barry has joined Netcordia to create and grow the company’s strategic partner program. He was previously with AlterPoint before joining the provider of automated network configuration and change management solutions.
ELKRIDGE – Marketing and public relations firm The O’Ferrall Group is a new company created by former executives of Corridor, Inc. The firm intends to help companies win new business in Anne Arundel and surrounding areas.
MILLERSVILLE – Apple Computer’s list of Value Added Resellers now includes MacMedics. The 20 year-old company will expand its focus on Macintosh network integration in markets including audio, broadcast, film, networking, Original Equipment Manufacturer, photography, publishing, scientific/technical, storage, and video.
LINTHICUM – Laser Line and Virginia-based LaserAge have joined forces to become the largest HP dealer servicing the Baltimore-Washington area. For nearly 5,000 customers and 30,000 print devices, the new company will feature product and service offerings of copier, printer and networking products.
