ANNAPOLIS – Enterprise network and systems management firm Zenoss is a founding member of the newly launched Open Source Channel Alliance. The group aims to deliver open source technologies to a base of resellers and system integrators through partnerships with SYNNEX, a business process services company.
ANNAPOLIS – Governor Martin O’Malley signed emergency legislation that permits the state to purchase the Laurel Park race track along with other assets of bankrupt Magna Entertainment. Hoping to keep the horse racing industry in the state, the office of economic development would issue bonds to acquire the properties if no other buyers emerge. It is uncertain if the law will have any impact at the federal bankruptcy hearing.

He was one of four panelists at a Chesapeake Regional Technology Council discussion about attracting and retaining tech talent. Input from other contributors:

MILLERSVILLE – Andrew Spicer is taking the reins as general manager of the Maryland operations for vacation planner Travel Advantage Network. He will apply skills learned as COO at construction firm Sunset Group, as CEO at Mindsurf Networks and as CTO of the private client division at Merrill Lynch.
EASTON – Career services and recruitment firm Proticon has launched a new division for hospitality and named Eric Jammer to run it. His background includes recruiting and placing senior-level talent in hospitality and corporate travel verticals.
ANNAPOLIS – Web services firm Sidus Group, LLC named Cathy Porter to spearhead business development activities. She brings to the firm experience in relationship building and development for organizations including the Greater Washington Sports Alliance and Sprint.
ANNAPOLIS – Judy Buddensick, sales manager of WRNR Radio has received a $100 gift card in a random drawing of participants who underwent a complementary review of health insurance programs. Promiserve showed the pool of contestants how they can lower premiums.
ANNAPOLIS – Last Saturday marked the opening of the first of six spring markets in the county this year. The Farmer’s Market at Riva Road and Harry S. Truman Parkway carries locally grown produce, seasonal products and specialty items, as do the other markets in Deale, Glen Burnie, Piney Orchard, Severna Park and Westfield Annapolis Mall. GLEN BURNIE – Marley Station mall and Murphy Commercial Real Estate Services have inked a deal for the realtor to market newly created professional and medical office space in the mall. More than 100 retailers populate the mall, which is anchored by Macy’s, JC Penny and Sears.
GLEN BURNIE – Convergence Technology Consulting has achieved Microsoft’s Virtualization Specialization certification for Advanced Infrastructure Competency. This credential classifies the network engineering firm as having the highest partnership status with Microsoft, Citrix and VMware.
