ANNAPOLIS – Metro Silver Diner is the latest store to open its doors at Annapolis Towne Centre at Parole. The 3,940-square-foot eatery caters to healthy, on-the-go lifestyles with an environmentally sustainable operation and free wireless Internet connectivity. This is the chain’s first location in Anne Arundel after launching last year in Fairfax, Virginia.
HANOVER – Luxury home builder Toll Brothers, Inc. ranked #1 in five of nine rating categories among Home Builders in Fortune magazine’s list of the World’s Most Admired Companies 2009. executives, directors, and analysts to rate companies in their own industry on criteria including investment value and social responsibility. Toll Brothers has two communities in Hanover: Arundel Preserve – The Glen, and Arundel Preserve – The Enclave.
ANNAPOLIS – On the heels releasing Version 9 of its WebDrive Universal File Access Client software, South River Technologies established a partnership agreement with storage software firm ParaScale. The combined efforts of the companies will provide a standards-based solution for accessing Internet-based data.
FULTON – Content and document management specialist Quality Associates, Inc. is digitizing approximately 40 years of operating maps of the water and sewer systems of Anne Arundel’s Department of Public Works. Another project by the company for the County Council office involves digitizing bill and resolution document collection, VHS tapes, and audio material to allow for central access through a Web browser.
OLNEY – The parent company of Sandy Spring Bank, which has eight branches in Anne Arundel, announced Q1 2009 net income of $1.0 million ($.06 per diluted share) compared to net income of $8.2 million ($.50 per diluted share) for the same period last year and a net loss of $3.8 million ($.23 per diluted share) for Q4 2008. Sandy Spring Bancorp’s Q1 numbers included a provision for loan and lease losses of $10.6 million related primarily to the residential real estate development portfolio.
LINTHICUM – Network specialist Ciena has expanded its Carrier Ethernet Service Delivery (CESD) portfolio so that providers can improve service to bandwidth-hungry locations such as enterprise sites and multi-tenant buildings. CESD is used by more than 100 carriers, wireless service providers, cable operators and new entrants in 25 countries.
ANNAPOLIS – Severn Bancorp, parent of Severn Savings Bank, FSB and Hyatt Commercial, announced a $1.3 million net loss ($.18 per share) for the first quarter, which compares to net income of $2.1 million or $.21 per share for the same period last year. Severn Savings Bank has four branches in Anne Arundel.
LINTHICUM – The board of directors of Dialysis Corporation of America has approved a stock repurchase program under which the company can buy back up to $3 million outstanding shares of common stock from time to time, depending on market conditions, share price and other factors.
GLEN BURNIE – The Aiello Breast Center at Baltimore Washington Medical Center received accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. The center is one of two in the state and 23 nationwide to receive this credential for its level of care and outcomes monitoring.
BWI AIRPORT – Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport cited statistics from the U.S. Department of Transportation that showed the airport’s on-time arrival rate of 88.8 percent was the best among all major U.S. airports in February.
