ANNAPOLIS – Brio Tuscan Grille will open its doors March 25th at Annapolis Towne Centre at Parole, the mixed-use project from developer Greenberg Gibbons. The 8,000 square-foot restaurant will be the first Maryland location for Brio, which features a white-tablecloth, Tuscan-style eatery. Anchoring the development is a 170,000-square-foot Target store, along with a Whole Foods Market expected to open in May. Retailers, Class A office space and luxury condos round out the mix.
HANOVER – The dual-branded Hilton Garden Inn Baltimore/Arundel Mills and the Homewood Suites by Hilton Baltimore/Arundel Mills are now open for business. At 7491 New Ridge Road (near Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport), the upscale Hilton Garden Inn coupled with the extended-stay Homewood Suites by Hilton attracts multiple market segments, according to the company.

LINTHICUM – Dialysis Corporation of America announced that Q4 revenues were up 18 percent to $23.7 million, while operating income was $2.2 million and net income totaled $858,000. The 2008 year-end figures were $86.8 million, $6.2 million and $2.8 million, respectively. The owner/operator of freestanding kidney hemodialysis centers served approximately 2,000 patients last year.
ANNAPOLIS – Speech Conversion Technologies and iNovex Information Systems have signed on to receive assistance in growing their businesses from the Chesapeake Innovation Center, the county’s business accelerator for homeland and national security technology. Both companies are seeking access to potential government contractors and military buyers, and assistance with product development. Speech Conversion Technologies offers voice to text technology, while iNovex Information Systems specializes in IT management for government contractors and the intelligence community.
BWI AIRPORT – Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport has established a Twitter account to provide airport status reports and travel information on travelers’ portable electronic devices. Users may register as BWI Marshall Airport “followers” who receive “tweets,” or brief text messages, that provide status updates, flight information, parking availability, and other airport information.
ANNAPOLIS – South River Technologies has released version 3.0 of DMZedge Server, part of its suite of products for managed file transfer and document collaboration software. With this upgrade the company increases the level of protection it offers against security breaches such as network intrusion, hacking and other attacks. The system complies with requirements for the Federal Information Processing Standards to help ensure the security of information stored in disparate systems, and it supports 64-bit versions of Windows, the emerging standard for server operating systems.
LINTHICUM – Although its news was bad, Ciena had a refreshingly honest statement about the coming months: “Our short-term visibility is extremely limited. As a result, we are not in a position to provide revenue guidance for the fiscal second quarter 2009.” The maker of optical networking equipment made the announcement in conjunction with its news about laying off nine percent of its workforce. Q1 revenue fell 26 percent, resulting in a net loss of $24.8 million.
