ANNAPOLIS – Gearing up for the $70 million InvestMaryland initiative, the state selected tax auction consultants Grant Street Group to oversee and administer the auction of the State’s premium tax credits to Maryland insurance companies. The funds will be invested into promising start-up and early stage companies, creating the largest venture capital investment in the state’s history. Four Firms Approved for AAEDC Loans

ANNAPOLIS – Chesapeake Light Craft, OpinionWorks, Six C/D Associates and Honey Bee Diner have been approved for loans through the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation (AAEDC) Business Financing Program. The program is made possible with the support of 16 banks and targets specific needs of small businesses and spurs investment in revitalization districts.

Route 175 Widening and Improvements Completed

ANNAPOLIS – Work has been completed on the one-mile stretch of Route 175 from Northbound I-295 to Rockenbach Road in Anne Arundel County. The link between Interstate 295 and Fort George G. Meade was widened by one lane in each direction and a center lane was added at a cost of about $6 million.

MarylandCenter for Entrepreneurship Sets Up Shop in Howard

ELLICOTT CITY – Howard County has launched the Maryland Center for Entrepreneurship, which will encompass the business incubator (formerly the NeoTech Incubator), the Business Resource Center, the Howard Technology Council and the Catalyst Loan Fund. Maryland Ranking: 39th For Job Creation, 16th For Unemployment

ALL OVER – Maryland’s economy is stabilizing but recovery is slower because the state has a government-led economy, claims economist Anirban Basu at the recent annual meeting of the Baltimore Washington Corridor Chamber. More than two years after the end of the recession, Marylanders and the rest of the country are trying to offset their low consumer confidence with increases in retail and auto sales (consumer spending is 72% of overall economy). Marylanders Show Their Stuff at Entrepreneur Expo

LINTHICUM – More than 350 entrepreneurs attended the first state-wide Entrepreneur Expo this week, an event put on by the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO). It is one of 10 featured events in the country as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week (Nov. 14 – 20).
