GREENBELT – The Bozzuto Bridal Registry is a new program that allows engaged couples to register for funds that can be used towards the purchase of a new Bozzuto Home, instead of or in addition to, traditional bridal registries.  Bozzuto Homes will match the funds received through the program towards the purchase of a new home, up to $15,000.

LINTHICUM – More than 350 entrepreneurs attended the first state-wide Entrepreneur Expo this week, an event put on by the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO).  It is one of 10 featured events in the country as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week (Nov. 14 – 20).

Objectives from Bryan Sivak, Maryland’s Chief Innovation Officer (left) who was interviewed by Mario Armstrong, Digital Lifestyle and Technology Expert for CNN:

  1. Help startups commercialize their products; he welcomed personal contact with him to present ideas
  2. Use the state’s resources to convene groups such as incubators to work together.  He offered up www.easy.maryland.gov, a site designed to remove barriers to business success.

BWI AIRPORT – With Southwest’s acquisition of AirTran Airways complete, all AirTran operations as of today will shift from Concourse D to the Terminal A/B facility.  More security, curbside checkin and 16 automated ticketing kiosks have been added to accommodate the increased traffic.

GAMBRILLS – A ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 17 will officially open Roundz Gourmet Market and kick off three days of related activities: a “Name that Food” challenge, cooking demonstrations, and face painting. Roundz will also collect non-perishable food items to benefit needy families. The store is at 2299 Johns Hopkins Road, site of the Roundz Catering operations.

ANNAPOLIS – Havana Banana Breads is open for business at 1981 Moreland Parkway. The bakery bills itself as the only company in America that makes only banana bread, albeit in six varieties. It sells to Whole Foods, farmer’s markets and others, and ships via UPS. Could be a great alternative to the holiday fruit cake.

ANNAPOLIS – the Wild Bird Center store is the newest tenant at 1410 Forest Drive. The shop offers nature-related products including bird seed, feeders and houses, wind chimes and related gifts. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for Nov. 15 at 10:30 am.

LAUREL – A restaurant run by culinary students at Anne Arundel Community College, Cole’s Bistro is creating special dinners open to the public once a month.  The dinners are a collaboration between AACC and the Woodland Job Corps Career Development Center’s advanced culinary students. Job Corps operates only two advanced culinary programs in the country, requiring students to apply for acceptance.
